Putting local data into the hands of Northern Ireland’s Members of the Legislative Assembly

Northern Ireland Assembly

The Northern Ireland Assembly is responsible for making laws on transferred matters in Northern Ireland and for scrutinising the work of Ministers and Government Departments. It has recently developed a series of online interactive maps at ward and constituency level to help Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) get a better understanding of local needs.

The maps cover a number of areas including: social development, justice, health social and education and employment and learning. The team used web mapping software from InstantAtlas to produce the maps which are updated annually.

Anne Campbell, Geographic Information Consultant, says: “I usually have to create and export over 250 individual maps for MLAs but now they have the information at their fingertips in an interactive format. The fact that InstantAtlas Dashboard Builder is accessible via an ArcGIS Online account means the maps will be even easier to access. The next step will be to use it for election reporting.”
