Welcome to the latest InstantAtlas News, in this month’s edition we cover the following topics :-

Local Economic Monitor (LEM) – Monitoring Local Economic Conditions across England.
The Local Economic Monitor
Public organisations increasingly need to understand local-level economic trends and drivers. To address this need, OCSI in partnership with GeoWise have developed the Local Economic Monitor (http://www.local-economic-monitor.org) to:
- monitor key economic indicators for all English local authorities, showing the impact of recent trends;
- visualise time series data, including change over recent periods;
- present fully updated datasets, showing the latest available information from a range of government sources.

The report presents statistics on Swindon, which is showing how poorly Swindon has fared in terms of increased unemployment benefit claimant count rate – increasing from 2% in June 2007, to 5.5% in June 2009 (an increase in the rate of 370%). Of the LAs across England, only Corby has increased unemployment rates faster than Swindon (from 2.9 to 6.5%).

Interested in micro-level trends below the level of districts? Please contact us to discuss obtaining a similar interactive report presenting key economic indicators at a more detailed neighbourhood level, updated monthly. We can host this report for you or, if you prefer, we can email it to you, so you can host on your intranet or public web site.
You can also design and deliver reports like this for your own audience with your own data. The InstantAtlas software used to create these reports is highly flexible and can be purchased independently. Please contact Geowise for more information.
We can also supply data packs in ready-to-use, including an Economic Monitor Pack, and an Economic Assessment Duty Pack aimed at supporting Local Authorities to develop local economic assessments. Please see http://www.ocsi.co.uk/spotlights/data_report_packs/ our web-page on Data and Report packs for more details.

How are you reporting the results of the PlaceSurvey 2008?
Headline results from the Place Survey 2008 were published nationally by the Dept of Communities and Local Government (CLG) on 23rd June 2009. Local Authorities have, in many cases, had access to unweighted results for their own area for a longer period of time. National results have, to date, been published as a set of tables largely around the 18 National Indicators supported by the survey for both upper tier and lower tier local authorities in England.

Geowise have just announced the public release of InstantAtlas Desktop V6 for Data Professionals.
InstantAtlas is quick and easy to use and requires no programming knowledge. You use familiar data management tools such as Excel and Access. You can also create dynamic links to other databases.
InstantAtlas has three core templates – Single Map, Double Map, Area Profile – one Double Map group variant template – Double Map Time Series one Area Profile group variant template – Performance Analysis – and one specialist template – Funnel Plot – from which to create stand-alone or server dynamic reports. You can see the features in each template by clicking on their links.
How are you supporting the data exchange required for your Local Area Agreement and integrated strategies like Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and Local Economic Assessment?

InstantAtlas Server 6 has been adopted by over 35 organisations in the UK for this purpose as well as for developing or upgrading Local Information Systems and Data observatories.
The InstantAtlas platform is designed for analysts, researchers, and information professionals who want to communicate quickly and effectively on the web with a customisable, off-the-shelf solution.
It is based around a central datastore designed specifically for statistical and performance indicators linked to geographic areas and time periods. Information analysts and data professionals can create highly-interactive web solutions that combine statistics and map data to improve data visualisation, enhance communication, and engage people in more informed decision making. It supports a rich set of web-based administration tools allowing content to be managed by a central team or federated to multiple teams across an organisation and its partners.
Using InstantAtlas Server 6 data can be pulled dynamically from other business systems, for example corporate GIS datastores, while services can also be set up to allow data to be pushed into other systems such as Performance Management Systems.
All this is available for rapid delivery out of the box.
Together with the launch of InstantAtlas Server V6 we are offering an InstantAtlas Server 6 introductory package.
